Lady Lions sign five; men ink three

SCOOBA The East Mississippi Community College women's basketball team announced five signees for the 2002-03 season. The EMCC men's team has signed three players.
Lady Lions head coach Dale Peay said he was excited about the new class.
Perhaps one of the top signees is French Camp point guard Starr A. Potts. The 5-foot-5, 124-pounder, averaged 23 points 8 rebounds and 8 assists per game. She is the daughter of Bobby and Bobbie Potts Atterberry.
The next four Lady Lion signees all hail from Noxubee County. The Lady Tigers won 30 games and advanced to the 4A State Tournament.
Power forward Jessica Mason (5-10) leads the way having posted 19 points per game and nine rebounds per game. She is the daughter of Felix and Ollie Bell Mason.
Jennifer Porter is a 5-9 small forward. She tossed in seven points and seven rebounds per game. She is the daughter of Earnest and Willie Rose Porter.
Shawnequa Rucker also of Noxubee County played the shooting guard spot and averaged 10 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists per game. She is the daughter of L.C. and Brundia Jones.
Chaffie Spann rounds out the class. She played point guard for Noxubee averaging eight points and six assists per game. She is the daughter of Ozzie Lee and Jewel Spann.
The Lions mens team signed Chris Davis out of Kemper County, Anthony Johnson out of Columbus and James Moore, also of Kemper County.
Davis was an All-Division and All Sam Dale Conference player for the 23-8 Wildcats. He is the son of Ed and Louise Davis.
Johnson was a point guard for Columbus and was named to the All-Division and All-Area squads. He is the son of David and Beatrice Johnson.
Moore was a point guard for Kemper County. He was named to the All-District team for three straight years. He is the son of James and Dora Moore.
