Meridian man dies from injuries

A Meridian man died Thursday from injuries sustained in a two-car accident.
George Ellis Mitchell, 74, died at 8 a.m. in the intensive care unit of Rush Foundation Hospital more than 12 hours after the Wednesday night accident on Highway 39 North at Briarwood Drive.
Sgt. Ronnie Carter of the Mississippi Highway Patrol said that the accident involved two vehicles and injured three people including Mitchell. Carter could not provide any more information about the accident.
Lauderdale County Coroner Marl Cobler said the car Mitchell was driving was struck by another vehicle on the driver's side and that Mitchell's death was due to "massive chest trauma."
