Quitman girls explode for 24-11 home victory over Newton

QUITMAN The Quitman High School Lady Panthers remained undefeated on their new lighted field as they pounded out a 24-11 victory over Newton High School.
The Lady Panthers now stand atg 7-4 overall and 4-2 in the region, which is good enough for second place behind Northeast Lauderdale.
Newton scored eight runs in the first inning, and added one in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth. Quitman answered with two in the first, four in the second, six in the fourth and 12 in the fifth.
Candace Boatner led the Lady Panthers at the play with a five-for-five effort. Boatner also hit the game winning triple. Gabby Morgan hit a triple for the Lady Panthers.
The Lady Panthers are now 4-0 on their new field, but will be tested tonight when the region leading Northeast Lauderdale Lady Trojans visit. The varsity game starts at 6 p.m.
Union wins Puckett tourney
Union defeated St. Andrew's 11-3 and Puckett 5-1 to win the Puckett Tournament Saturday.
In beating St. Andrew's, Union got three hits including a double and a triple from Morgan Milling; a single, a double, and three RBIs from Lindsey Cassel; and two singles and two RBIs from Lauren White.
In beating Puckett in the finals, Tiffany Thomas had two hits and three RBIs. White had two singles and a double with Amy Dolan, LaSaundra Harrison, and Madison Brantley each having a pair of singles.
Brantley (13-1) was the winning pitcher in both games as Union improved to 14-1.
