Holiday magic helps Belgreen win 3

Carson Hovater and Lilliana Willingham contributed some holiday magic for the Belgreen Bulldogs. Both hit game winning shots to beat Rogers and West Morgan during the Thanksgiving holiday break.

Willingham made her game winner against West Morgan on Wednesday at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, enabling the Wildcats to beat the Rebels 58-56.

Belgreen led West Morgan 10-8 at the end of the first quarter, but the Rebels pulled away in the second quarter to take a 28-16 lead at halftime.

Belgreen mounted a comeback in the third quarter outscoring West Morgan 19-5 to take a 35-33 lead. The regulation game ended tied at 50-50.

In overtime, Alayna Tate and Randi Terry both scored three points, and Willingham hit a 15-foot jump shot to win the game.

Terry led the Bulldogs with 21 points followed by Willingham with 15 points. Tate added eight points, Makenna Fisher seven points, Marlie Terry five points and Jemma Moore and Lily Green each had one point.

Earlier in the week, Belgreen beat Rogers 62-60 at the buzzer on a midrange jumper by Hovater.

Belgreen led Rogers 14-13 at the end of the first quarter, but the Pirates led 33-32 at the half.

Belgreen seemingly had the game in hand, outscoring Rogers 23-7 in the third quarter to take a 55-40 lead. The Pirates, however, responded with a dominant fourth quarter to tie the game before Hovater hit the game winner.

Fisher led Belgreen with 16 points, scoring eight points in the third quarter. Terry followed with 14 points and also scored eight points in the third quarter. Tate added nine points, and Green scored eight points. Mackinley Hogan, Moore, and Hovater scored four points each, and Willingham added three points.

Belgreen also beat Falkville last week 52-26. Willingham led the Bulldogs with 14 points followed by Terry and Fisher with eight points each.
