New city attorney is hired

PHIL CAMPBELL — Councilmembers have voted to end the city’s agreement with attorney James Atkinson and hire Nathan Johnson to serve as prosecutor and town attorney.

The vote on Nov. 18 was unanimous.

Before the vote, Mayor GregWilliamssaidAtkinson was not meeting the town’s needs, and council members agreed Johnson should take over legal and prosecutorial duties.
