Copeland scores 26 in Golden Tigers win
Ella Copeland scored 26 points to help Russellville run away from Phil Campbell 56-30 on Nov. 17.
The Golden Tigers put the game away early, outscoring the Bobcats 21-3 in the first quarter. Russellville led 37-14 at halftime behind 11 second quarter points by Copeland.
The Golden Tigers extended their lead to 54-22 by the end of the third quarter before cruising to the win.
Angeleah Smith followed Copeland’s 26 points with 13 points. Laila Hill added seven points, Sadie Odom five points, Elizabeth Davis three points, and Alexia Groce three points.
Leela Baker and Addie Gilbert led Phil Campbell with eight points each. Belmont 75, Phil Campbell 52 Leela Baker scored 24 points in a 75-52 loss to Belmont (MS). Layla Baker and Gilbert scored 10 points each.
Haleyville 48, Phil Campbell 33 Leela Baker led Phil Campell with 11 points in a 48-33 loss to Haleyville.
Phil Campbell trailed 28-21 at halftime and 39-27 at the end of the third quarter.
Belgreen 62, Haleyville 48 Lilliana Willingham scored 20 points to help Belgreen to a 62-48 win over Haleyville.
Belgreen led by just three points at halftime, 30-27. The Bulldogs outscored the Lions 19-13 in the third quarter and 13-8 in the fourth quarter.
Makenna Fisher followed Willingham with 10 points. Lily Green and Carson Hovater scored eight points each.
Belgreen 59, Athens Bible 27 A strong second quarter propelled the Belgreen Bulldogs past Athens Bible 59-27.
After leading 8-7 after one quarter, Belgreen outscored Athens Bible 22-8 in the second quarter and 19-5 in the third quarter in route to the blowout win.
Fisher led the Bulldogs with 12 points followed by Green and Alayna Tate with ten points each.
Mars Hill 87, Belgreen 60 Despite a 14-point game by both Willingham and Fisher, Belgreen couldn’t keep up with the Mars Hill Panthers falling 87-60.
Colbert County 70, Belgreen 56 Belgreen couldn’t keep up with the frantic scoring pace of the Colbert County Indians, falling 70-56.
Randi Terry led the Bulldogs with 18 points. She was followed by Fisher with 13 points and Willingham with 10 points.
Vina adds 2 wins
The Vina Red Devils improved to 6-3 this week with wins over the Berry Wildcats, 40-27, and Covenant Christian, 49-28.
In the Berry game, Miranda King led scoring with 12 points followed by Layla Hester, Braxtyn Quinn, and Cecilia Rowbottom, all with seven points each.
In the Covenant game, King led scoring with 12 points, Rowbottom had 11 points and 12 rebounds, Hester had 10 points and 6 assists.
Russellville tops Phil Campbell in OT The Russellville Golden Tigers survived an upset in their season opener by beating the Phil Campbell Bobcats 51-49 in an overtime thriller.
Phil Campbell’s Madden Welch scored a game-high 24 points but his game winning threepoint attempt rimmed out as time expired, sending the game into overtime with the score knotted at 46-46.
With Russellville leading 51-49 in the second overtime, again Phil Campbell had a chance to win or send the game into a second overtime. This time Austin Elliott drove to free throw line and a clean look at a short jumper that bounced off the rim giving the Golden Tigers the win.
Sir Williams led the way for Russellville with an impressive 21 points, but it was Tripp Cleveland who hit some clutch shots for the Golden Tigers down the stretch, helping them snag the win.
Early on it looked like Russellville might run away with the game leading Phil Campbell 18-8 at the end of the first quarter. The Bobcats battled back to cut the Golden Tigers lead to 26-21 at halftime.
Russellville extended its lead to 38-31 at the end of the third quarter but Phil Campbell got hot in the fourth outscoring the Golden Tigers 15-8 to tie the game.
Cleveland followed Williams’ 21-point performance with 11 points, and Parker Odom added 10 points. Daniel Aycock finished with seven points, Conner Vincent three points, and Malachi Groce three points.
Elliott followed Welch’s 24-point performance with 12 points. Hayston Scott added five points, Hagen Raper four points and Chandler Benford two points.
Phil Campbell 47, Belmont 44 (2 OT) Phil Campbell ended the week with another overtime game. This time it went into two overtimes and the Bobcats escaped with a 47-44 win.
Elliott led all scorers with 23 points. Welch followed with nine points, Raper eight points, and Scott with seven points.
Haleyville 49, Phil Campbell 39 Phil Campbell trailed Haleyville by just one at halftime, 22-21, but couldn’t hold on as the Lions pulled away with the 49-39 win.
Elliott led with 16 points and Raper added 10 points.
