PCHS opens with 3 wins

The Phil Campbell Bobcats reeled of three straight basketball wins to open the season, beating Tharptown, Winston County and Cherokee.

The Bobcats opened the season with a dominating win over the Tharptown Wildcats 67-30. Phil Campbell led Tharptown 32-12 at halftime and 53-19 at the end of the third quarter.

Austin Elliott led Phil Campbell with 17 points followed by Hagen Raper with 14 points.

Zach Riley led Tharptown with 11 points. The Bobcats then beat Winston County, 53-48 After matching Winston County bucket for bucket in the first quarter, Phil Campbell outscored the Yellow Jackets 18-9 in the second quarter to take a 28-19 first half lead. The Bobcats led 41-31 at the end of the third quarter and held off a Winston County surge in the fourth quarter for the win.

Hayston Scott led Phil Campbell with 14 points making three three-pointers, including two in the second quarter. Elliott alsohit a pair of three pointers in the second quarter and scored nine points in the game. Raper added nine points, Madden Welch eight points, Chandler Benford seven points, and Bailey Nix six points.

The Bobcats finished the week with a 54-25 win over Cherokee.

After a tight first quarter, Phil Campbell outscored Cherokee by 28 points in the final three quarters to take the win. Phil Campell led 7-6 at the end of the first quarter but outscored Cherokee by 10 in the second quarter to take a 20-9 lead. The Bobcats extended their lead to 40-14 in the third quarter before cruising to victory.

Elliott led the Bobcats scoring 23 points. He was followed by Raper with 10 points and Scott with nine points.
