Enterprise boys edge Clarkdale in overtime

Burrell Gandy went off for 25 points and 22 rebounds Friday night to lead Enterprise to a 60-57 overtime victory over division rival Clarkdale in area prep basketball action.
The host Bulldogs, who improved to 2-3 on the season, trailed 35-26 at halftime before putting up a 21-7 advantage in the third quarter.
Clarkdale rallied to tie things at 53-53 at the end of regulation before falling in overtime.
In addition to Gandy's big night, Bryan Bester and Cory Boggan added 12 points apiece for Enterprise.
Clarkdale lost despite 18 points from Richard Matthews. Anthony Holliday scored 13 and Matt Minchew 10.
Clarkdale girls 40, Enterprise 37: Jeff Davis' Lady Bulldogs of Clarkdale kept Enterprise winless on the season with a tight road win Friday.
Clarkdale put three players in double figures: JorD'an Orr and Elisha Wright scored 11 points apiece and Carmelita Naylor chipped in 10 points.
Jerra Cook scored 17 points for Enterprise, which was tied with Clarkdale 24-24 at halftime. Shonda Bester also scored 11 for coach Tommy Perkins' squad, which is now 0-9.
Noxubee County girls 73, Kemper County 42: The Tigerettes opened the game with a 23-8 run over the first eight minutes and coasted to their 11th straight win.
Noxubee, now 11-2, led 41-22 at halftime and opened the second half on a 24-7 spurt to really blow things open.
Erlexis Cooper and Jessica Mason scored 16 points apiece to lead Noxubee, while Chaffie Spann scored 15.
Kemper County fell to 1-7 despite 19 points from Monique Mosley and 10 from Tamician Davis.
The Lady Wildcats will be in action again Tuesday, when they host Newton County.
Noxubee County boys 51, Kemper County 44: The Wildcats dropped their second straight in a crazy contest at DeKalb Friday night.
Kemper County outscored Noxubee 10-0 in the second quarter and took a comfortable 31-17 lead into the locker room at halftime. But the Wildcats could manage just three points in the third quarter as Noxubee rallied to tie the game, then the visiting Tigers held a 17-10 advantage in the final period to earn the win.
Noxubee, which is now 5-6, got 23 points from Reginald Roby and 13 from Johnathan Brandy.
Kemper fell to 5-3 despite 14 points from Kenny Boyd. The Wildcats host Newton County Tuesday.
Heidelberg girls 70, Laurel 52: The Lady Oilers ran their record to 6-3 on the season by outscoring the Lady Tornadoes in all four quarters Friday.
Heidelberg led 17-12 after one period of play and 36-22 at halftime.
Francis Bender led the Lady Oilers with 19 points, while Jessica Yates threw in 17 points for Heidelberg.
Heidelberg boys 78, Laurel 71: Coach Ted Williams' Oilers continued to play well, knocking off a solid Class 4A Laurel squad.
Heidelberg started early, jumping to an eight-point lead after one quarter. Laurel rallied to tie things at 59-59 heading into the fourth, where the Oilers held a 19-12 advantage.
Derrick Turner lit up the scoreboard for 35 points to lead Heidelberg, which also got 17 points from big man Fred Stephens.
Wesley Bender scored 24 points to lead Laurel.
New Hope boys 68, Quitman 60: The host Panthers came up short in a tight one with the visiting Trojans Friday.
Quitman led 16-15 after one and still trailed by just four heading into the final quarter.
Renaldo McKenzie led the Panthers with 22 points, while David Laphand scored 19 for Quitman, which is at Wayne County Tuesday.
Steve Sanders and Lee Boyd pumped in 20 points apiece to lead New Hope, which also got 16 points from Troy Gipson.
Quitman girls 50, New Hope 44: The Lady Panthers picked up their first victory of the season Friday night when they held off New Hope.
Quitman was down by four points after one quarter, but a 16-7 edge in the second period put Judy Morgan's squad up five points going into the locker room at the half.
Takeisha Bonner scored 12 points to lead the Lady Panthers, while Kemonica McGee and Michana Bonner had seven points apiece.
Quitman returns to action Tuesday at Wayne County.
Sylva-Bay girls 57, Newton County Academy 46: In a Thursday night matchup of Academy Division 3-A rivals, the Lady Saints overcame a slow start to knock off NCA's Lady Generals.
Sylva-Bay, which is now 9-2 overall and 3-1 in division play, trailed 21-17 at halftime. But the Lady Saints rallied to go up by three heading into the fourth quarter, where they exploded for 24 points to take the win.
Lauren Husbands pumped in 21 points and Katye Tubb scored 19 for Sylva-Bay, which is at Rebul today. Ingrid Norvell chipped in seven and Amber Carlisle scored six.
Sylva-Bay boys 60, Newton County Academy 47: The Saints also earned a division win Thursday, riding a big third-quarter to the victory.
Sylva-Bay led just 19-17 at halftime before exploding for 28 points in the third quarter and taking control of the contest.
Andres Norvell scored 19 points and Kaleb Deese had 18 for the Saints, while Nathan Hayes scored eight.
Nathan Stamper and Chris Bounds had 12 points apiece for the Generals, while Daniel Champion scored 11.
Sylva-Bay is at Rebul today.
Starkville Academy 53, Lamar School 51: The Raiders dropped to 4-4 on the season with a Thursday loss at Starkville.
Lamar lost despite 20 points and seven rebounds from Dusty Jones and 11 points and eight rebounds from Justin Brewer. Jared McKee added 10 points, while Sam Eakes pulled down 13 rebounds.
The Raiders' next action is Tuesday at 8 p.m. against Jackson Prep in the Hillcrest Christian Tournament.
Lamar's girls also fell to Starkville Thursday, dropping a 62-18 decision. No other details were available.
Kate Griffin 46, Louisville 19: In an eighth-grade game, Kate Griffin got 11 points from Alton Griggs in an easy win over Louisville.
Cornelius Miles added 10 points for the Wildkittens, who are now 2-1. Kate Griffin is at Columbus Monday.
Kate Griffin 71, Louisville 42: In the ninth-grade game, Kate Griffin put four players in double figures to coast past Louisville.
Kimone McDade scored 15 points, while Ryan Townsend had 13, Jermaine Lewis 11 and Gerame Scott 10. The ninth-grade bunch, now 3-0, is also at Columbus Monday.
