3 patriotic displays honored by VFW

RUSSELLVILLE — The Kelley Dickinson VFW Post 5184 honored three local Fourth of July displays with patriotism certificate awards.

Awards were presented to the Franklin County Commission for the display at the Franklin County Courthouse, to Russellville Mayor David Grissom for the display at Russellville City Hall, and to Chase Sparks, owner of Russellville Florist and Gifts.

“The wonderful displays of patriotism show support for our great nation during its 250th birthday celebration,” Post Commander Randy Mancell said.

Probate Judge Barry Moore accepted the award on behalf of the county commission.

“We appreciate the award they gave us,” Moore said. “We appreciate all who were involved in making this happen.”

Grissom credited city employees with creating the display at Russellville City Hall.

“The Patriotism Award for city hall was a team effort,” Grissom said. “I appreciate the work by Shannon Wilson, Jamie Reeves and team members of the Russellville Street Department, plus City Clerk Belinda Miller.”

Grissom also thanked the VFW for its work in the community and support of veterans.

“This was a team effort to help celebrate the 250th birthday of the greatest country in the world,” Grissom said. “I’m thankful that God allowed the United States of America to be my home.”

The VFW presented its third award to Sparks for the display at Russellville Florist and Gifts.

Sparks said the store’s decorations have generated a positive response from the community.

“It was an honor to be recognized,” Sparks said. “I am glad that people enjoy what we do at the store. It brings enthusiasm to our town.”

Sparks also reflected on the role of the VFW in recognizing community efforts.
