Odom ‘excited’ for final golf season

Patrick Odom may be stepping away from coaching at the end of the current school year, but he’s hoping to go out on a high note as he leads the Russellville High School boys golf team one final time.

Now in his eighth season as head coach, Odom said he is excited about the amount of experience he has to work with this year.

Leading the charge will be his son, Parker Odom, who has essentially been the team’s go-to player since he was a sophomore.

“He’s been very comfortable in that one spot, and he’s been our lead guy for the last couple of years,” Patrick Odom said. “Golf is a sport he loves and commits himself to it so we’re looking for a good year from him.”

Fellow senior Maddox Herring will also be heavily relied upon in the team’s two spot, while Dakota Little, who is in his second year as a member of the team, and junior Karson Fletcher will also play larger roles this year.

While there is plenty of veteran leadership to go around, Odom will also have some youth to work with as freshman Brody Boatwright will look to get some valuable playing time as he develops.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing these guys develop and get better,” Odom said. “We try to work with our guys and let them participate in other things they want to do, but golf is a game where you have to really do a lot of things on your own and that’s a challenge. But, overall, I think we’re up for it.”
