RHS falls in tourney semis

The Russellville boys basketball team took the court last week for the Bracy Invitational held at Deshler High School and the Golden Tigers opened the tournament with a win over Central before falling to Pearl-Cohn of Nashville, Tennessee, in the semifinals.

Russellville got a 70-33 victory over the Central Wildcats on Dec. 26. The RHS defense held Central to only three points in the first quarter and the Golden Tigers led 35-15 at the halftime break.

Sir Williams led Russellville to victory with 20 points and Parker Odom also scored in double figures with 14. Tripp Cleveland added nine points while Malaki Groce and Daniel Aycock had eight points each. Braxton Duncan scored six, Gavin McDaniel added three, and Noah Smith entered the scoring column with two points.

Cole Wilcoxson led Central in scoring with 13 points. Aiden Haddock scoredseven,LoganParrish had four, and Collin Barnes added three points. Jackson Kelley, Brodie Dawson and Zach Vines had two points each for the Wildcats.

Pearl-Cohn defeated Russellville 53-40 the following night. A low-scoring first quarter had the Firebirds ahead of the Golden Tigers 8-7. After leading at the half 20-17, Pearl-Cohn outscored RHS 21-6 during the game’s third quarter to pull away.

Russellville’s Williams led all scorers with 21 points. Aycock had seven points and Cleveland added six. Groce and Parker Odom scored three points each.

L.T. Funk led the Firebirds with 15 points. Stephen Saulter had 13 points and JaMorris Smith scored 10. Eric Hazettle added eight points and D.J. Cotten scored seven for Pearl-Cohn.
