RHS girls are 8-5

Russellville High School hosted the Lawrence County Red Devils on Dec. 19 to begin varsity basketball area play and the Lady Golden Tigers got a 69-41 win.

RHS started the contest with hot shooting to take a 19-10 lead into the second quarter. The Lady Golden Tigers outpaced LCHS by a 16-13 total in the second period to lead by 12 points at the half.

Russellville’s Laila Hill is ready to get a rebound versus Lawrence County.

The second half also belonged to the Lady Tigers as Russellville earned a 52-30 lead going into the game’s final quarter.

Ella Copeland led Russellville to victory with 25 points. Sadie Odom followed with 13, Laila Hill added 11, and Angeleah Smith also scored in double figures with 10 points. Bella Malone had six points for RHS while Elizabeth Davis and Alexia Groce entered the scoring column with two points each.

With the victory, Russellville improved to 8-5 on the season and 1-0 in Class 5A Area 15.

The RHS varsity boys fell to Lawrence County by a final score of 76-43 in the area opener for the Golden Tigers.

The loss was the second in a row overall for RHS. Good Hope defeated Russellville by a score of 63-61 on Dec. 13 in a nonarea game.

The Russellville varsity boys are now 2-7 on the season and 0-1 in Class 5A Area 15.
