Red Bay Tigers claim 2 easy wins
The Red Bay boys won both of their games last week, while Belgreen split a pair of contests, and Phil Campbell lost two games.
Red Bay 66, Phil Campbell 43
Khalil Luster dropped 28 points to help the Tigers beat Phil Campbell 66-43. Luster dominated the Bobcats in the paint, hitting a three pointer and was five-for-five from the free throw line.
Red Bay jumped out to a 17-8 lead in the first quarter and extended its lead to 35-24 at the half. The Tigers began to pull away in the third quarter, taking a 50-33 lead.
Luster led all scorers. He was followed by Bryant Harris with 12 points. Landlyn Lewey added seven points, Dalton Lewey six points, Jayce Jackson five points, Conner Nichols five points, and Davo Colburn three points.
The Tigers made nine three-pointers with at least one coming from all seven scorers.
Austin Elliott led Phil Campbell with 23 points. He was followed by Madden Welch and Hayston Scott with six points each. Chandler Benford added three points. Bailey Nix and Brady Williams scored two points each. Jeremiah Smith also scored a point.
Red Bay 65, Winfield 46
The Tigers easily beat the Winfield Pirates, 65-46. Red Bay took a 15-10 lead in the first quarter and extended the lead to 30-13 by halftime and was firmly in control 47-20 at the end of the third quarter.
Luster led Red Bay with 23 points followed by Harris with 12 points. Dalton Lewey added nine points followed by Landlyn Lewey and Jaxson Vinson with six points each, Nichols four points, and Jackson Miller two points.
Belgreen 40, Tharptown 11
The Belgreen Bulldogs easily handled the Tharptown Wildcats last week.
Belgreen trailed Tharptown 9-8 at the end of the first quarter but shut out the Wildcats in the second quarter to take a 19-9 lead at halftime. Belgreen extended its lead to 27-11 at the end of the third quarter before cruising to victory.
Chris Bentley led Belgreen with 10 points. Jake Dill added seven points, Gabriel Estrada six points, Rush Berryman five points, Mason Henley three points, Easton Mitchell two points, and Parker Morgan two points.
Joshua Bahena led Tharptown with seven points followed by Kaiden Hallmark with four points, Evin Lawson with three points, and Zach Riley with two points.
Mars Hill 72, Phil Campbell 53
The Bobcats lost an area contest to the Mars Hill Panthers, 72-53. Mars Hill jumped out to a 21-10 lead in the first quarter and led 39-25 at the half. The Bobcats cut the Panthers lead to six points late in the third quarter but couldn’t maintain the momentum trailing 57-40 at the end of the quarter.
Phil Campbell’s Elliott led all scorers with 28 points. He was followed by Welch with eight points, Hagen Raper with seven points, Nix with four points, Logan Cooper with three points, Smith with two points, and Scott had one point.
Hubbertville 76, Belgreen 63
The number two team in Class 1A, Hubbertville, beat Belgreen, 76-63. The Lions jumped out to an impressive 35-9 first quarter lead and held off the Bulldogs the rest of the way.
Aaron Rubido led Belgreen with 20 points followed by Dill with 18 points. Bentley and Estrada scored seven points each. Berryman added five points. Morgan, Jaxson Wood and Henley all scored two points each.
