Phil Campbell beats Red Bay, 42-34
Phil Campbell staved off a fourth quarter rally to beat Red Bay, who also lost to Winfield,, while Belgreen split a pair of games last week in girls play.
Phil Campbell 42, Red Bay 34
The Phil Campbell Bobcats staved off a late comeback by the Red Bay Tigers to win 42-34.
Phil Campbell jumped out to a 13-4 lead in the first quarter, but the Tigers were able to cut the Bobcats’ lead to 25-20 by halftime. Phil Campbell led 32-24 at the end of the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Red Bay’s Julianna Eaton got hot, scoring 10 points to cut the Bobcats lead to three points with one minute left in the game. Phil Campbell called a timeout, regrouped and scored two straight baskets to put the game away.
Layla Baker led Phil Campbell with 15 points, including making three three-pointers. Addie Gilbert added two threes and scored 10 points. Leela Baker scored nine points, Gracie Harris five points, and Georgia Motes three points.
Red Bay’s Eaton led all scorers with 16 points followed by DaRilee Colburn with nine points, Katlyn Lindley with five points, and Kamryn Kuykendall with four points.
Belgreen 48, Tharptown 22
The Belgreen Bulldogs easily defeated the Tharptown 48-22 in an intra-county matchup.
BelgreenledTharptown 10-7 at the end of the first quarter and began to pull away in the second quarter taking a 27-13 halftime lead. The Bulldogs were firmly in control at the end of the third quarter, leading 36-15.
Makenna Fisher led Belgreen with 11 points followed by Jemma Moore with eight points. Randi Terry and Alayana Tate scored six points each. Mackinley Hogan added five points and Carson Hovater four points. Lily Green, Isabella Tate, Kiera Smith, and Lilliana Willingham scored two points each.
Carly Cason led Tharptown with six points followed by Alyssa Fischer with five points and Maddaline Amaro with three points. Cadence Kennedy, Raeleigh Harrell, Abby Wilson, and Allie Gann scored two points each.
New Site (MS) 67, Belgreen 51
Belgreen fell to New Site (Mississippi) last week 67-51. The game was tied 18-18 at the end of the first quarter and the Bulldogs led 36-29 at the half. The second half was all New Site as they outscored the Bulldogs 38-15 to take the win.
Belgreen was led by the Terry sisters — Randi Terry and Marlie Terry scored 12 points each. Moore followed with 10 points. Fisher added seven points. Willingham and Hovater scored three points each.
Winfield 50, Red Bay 36
Red Bay lost to Winfield 50-36. Lindley led Red Bay with 11 points followed by Kuykendall with 10 points. Blake Oliver added eight points, Colburn had four points, Gracie Edgmon scored two points, and Libby Thorne added one point.
