Tharptown boys, Vina girls win 2 of 3 games
Tharptown 48, Shoals Christian 27
The Tharptown Wildcats beat the Shoals Christian Flame 48-27. The Wildcats doubled up the Flame at halftime 14-7 and extended their lead to 30-15 at the end of the third quarter.
Zach Riley led the Wildcats with 19 points, making five three-pointers. Evin Lawson followed with 12 points. Cody McClusky added eight points, Jackson Knighten seven points, and Bryson Borden two points.
Tharptown 52, Tremont 36 After falling behind early, Tharptown stormed back to blowout Tremont 52-36. Tremont led the Wildcats 14-11 but Tharptown outscored Tremont 16-2 in the second quarter to take a 27-16 halftime lead.
Tremont 31, Tharptown 30
Tharptown was led by Lawson 14 followed by Riley with six and Joshua Bahena six.
Phil Campbell 71, Colbert Heights 53 Phil Campbell had a strong start and finish to their first area game beating Colbert Heights 71-53. The Bobcats outpaced the Wildcats 20-13 in the first quarter and 25-15 in the fourth quarter in route to the win.
The Bobcats had four players in double figures: Austin Elliott 17 points, Madden Welch 16 points, Hayston Scott 12 points, and Chandler 10 points. Hagen Raper added eight points and Bailey Nix, Brady Williams and Jeremiah Smith all scored two points each.
Sheffield 65, Phil Campbell 51 Phil Campbell came up short in their second area game of the week falling to Sheffield 65-51.
Elliott led the Bobcats with 22 points. He was followed by Williams with eight points, Logan Cooper with seven points, Scott with seven points, Raper with a point and Smith with a point.
GIRLS
Vina 46, Pickens Academy 25
Layla Hester scored 14 points to lead Vina to a 46-26 win over Pickens Academy. Miranda King added nine points, Harleigh Ridge eight points, Braztyn Quinn five points, Miley Pannell three points, and Olivia Crum three points. Brenleigh Cole and Cecillia Rowbottom added two points each.
Vina 56, Gaylesville 17 Vine handily defeated Gaylesville 56-17 last week. Rowbottom led the Red Devils with 10 points. Marissa Lamar, Quinn and Hester added seven points each. Samantha Elders and King scored five points each. Lindie Easterling, Allie Lann, Cole, Crum and Ridge all scored two points each.
Cullman Christian 41, Vina 38 Vina fell in the championship game to Cullman Christian 41-38. Hester led Vina with 12 points followed by King with 11 points. Quinn added six points, Crum four points, Marissa Lamar three points and Rowbottom three points.
Belgreen 54, Covenant Christian 17 The Belgreen Bulldogs beat the Covenant Christian Eagles 54-17. Belgreen put this game away early leading the Eagles 28-7 at halftime.
Belgreen was led by Makenna Fisher who scored 11 points. She was followed by Randi Terry with nine points, Lily Green with eight points, Lilliana Willingham with seven points, Mackinley Fisher with six points, Jemma Moore with five points, and Carson Hovater with four points.
Phil Campbell 45, Colbert Heights 36 The Phil Campbell Bobcats held off a second comeback by Colbert Heights to win their first area game 45-36. Phil Campbell jumped out to a 28-8 first half lead and appeared to have the game comfortably in hand. The Wildcats stormed back in the third quarter, outscoring the Bobcats 18-6 to cut the lead to 34-26. Colbert Heights had got the game even closer than that but Phil Campbell held off the visitors.
The Bobcats were led by Leela Baker with 15 points. She was followed by Addie Gilbert with eight points, Layla Baker with six points, Georgia Motes with six points, Emily Walker with four points, Bailey Jewell with two points, Gracie Harris with two points, and Kylee Santiago with two points.
Phil Campbell 56, Sheffield 27 In their second area game of the week, the Phil Campbell Bobcats easily defeated the Sheffield Bulldogs 56-27.
The Bobcats had three players in double figures with Leela Baker leading the charge with 20 points followed by Layla Baker with 15 points and Jewell with 12 points. Georgia Motes added seven points, and Gilbert had two points.
