RHS girls beat Red Bay, boys lose to Tigers
The Russellville varsity basketball teams opened the home portion of their seasons with a battle with the Red Bay Tigers.
The RHS girls got a 75-50 win over Red Bay. The Lady Golden Tigers led 48-23 at the half and held a 60-37 advantage after three quarters of action. Ella Copeland led Russellville to victory with 24 points. Laila Hill added 19 points and Angeleah Smith had 17.
Sadie Odom had five points for RHS while Kaylee Suggs and Collins Odom scored three points each. Bella Malone and Charley Johnson also entered the scoring column with two points apiece.
Red Bay’s top-scorer was Kamryn Kuykendall with 16 points. Katlyn Lindley also scored in double figures with 12. Julianna Eaton added eight points, Gracie Edgmon scored seven, DaRilee Colburn had four, and Macie Humphries finished the game with three points.
Red Bay got a big win over Russellville in the boys game by a 67-50 final score. Russellville jumped out to a 17-7 first quarter lead, but Red Bay outscored the Golden Tigers 24-12 in the second quarter to take a 31-29 lead into the halftime break. The Tigers stayed hot in the second half and pulled away for the win.
Khalil Luster was the leading scorer for Red Bay with 18 points, including 10 in the first half. Jaxon Vinson had 14 points, Bryant Harris scored 12, Dalton Lowery added 11, Landyn Lewey scored nine, and Jeremiah Thorne had three points.

Russellville’s Sir Williams was top scorer in the game with 24 points. Malaki Groce had nine points for RHS and Daniel Aycock had seven. Parker Odom scored six while Conner Vincent and Braxton Duncan had two points each for RHS.
The Golden Tigers traveled to Wallace State Community College in Hanceville the following day to take on the Guntersville Wildcats. Guntersville took the varsity girls game over Russellville by an 81-44 final score, while the Guntersville boys defeated Russellville 89-38.
Copeland led the RHS girls with 24 points. Smith had eight, Hill scored 7, Alexia Groce added three, and Malone finished the contest with two points.
Russellville’s girls currently have a 4-3 record of 4-3 on the season while the Russellville boys are 1-2.
