BOE’s leadership re-elected

RUSSELLVILLE — The Franklin County Board of Education kept its leadership team in place during its annual organizational meeting Nov. 18.

The board re-elected Terry Welborn as president. Welborn also continues serving as chairman. They re-elected Kacey Johnston as vice president.

The board approved updates to the district’s medication policy and pandemic preparedness plan.

Lead school nurse Diane Baker said the district continues to follow state guidelines for medication administration. She said the district stocks epinephrine and Narcan at each school through state-supported programs at no cost.

Baker also said the district trains unlicensed employees to assist with medications on field trips when nurses must remain on campus.

She said the district will undergo compliance monitoring for nursing services in April 2026 and will submit the updated policies before the review.

Superintendent Greg Hamilton said the school system is in a strong position heading into Thanksgiving break. He pointed to the recent State of the Schools address and said he is proud of the district’s report card.
