Russellville volleyball beats West Point; record is 19-6
The Russellville High volleyball team got its first area win of the season by defeating West Point last week.
Russellville traveled to West Point on Sept. 9 and the Lady Golden Tigers defeated the Lady Warriors 3-1 by scores of 25-15, 19-25, 25-23 and 25-22.
Russellville’s Bri McCulloch had 31 digs, and Fatima Ramirez had 16 assists, 16 digs and four kills. Blevyn Sappington added 15 digs, seven kills and two blocks. Bella Malone had 12 kills, four blocks and three digs. Alexia Groce had 13 assists and nine digs. Laila Hill had 12 kills and 10 digs. Erin Grimes had six digs, Kaylee Suggs added five and Adaleigh Smith had four.
With the win, head coach Madison Lamon’s RHS squad is now 1-1 in Class 5A Area 15 play with home area matches remaining against Lawrence County and West Point.
RussellvillewenttoEast Lawrence High School on Sept. 11 for a tri-match with the Lady Eagles and Lauderdale County Lady Tigers. LCHS defeated Russellville 2-0 by scores of 25-21 and 25-23.
Malone and Hill led Russellville in kills with four each. Ramirez led Russellville in digs with 11. Groce had the most assists with seven, and Malone led the team in blocks with four.
Russellville improved to 19-6 on the season with a 2-1 victory over East Lawrence by scores of 25-21, 25-27 and 15-9.
Hill had the most kills for RHS with 11 and Sappington added 10. Ramirez had 13 assists and Groce followed closely with 12. Groce was the team leader while serving with two aces. McCulloch had 20 digs, and Brookelyn Davis added four blocks to help the Lady Golden Tigers to the win.
