Red Bay roars back for thrilling win

RED BAY – The Red Bay girls’ basketball team staged a dramatic second-half comeback to secure a thrilling 52-51 victory over the Covenant Christian Eagles.

The Tigers overcame a double-digit halftime deficit to snatch the win in a nail-biting finish.

The game began with Covenant Christian asserting control. The Eagles jumped out to an early lead, finishing the first quarter with a 17-9 advantage. They continued to build their lead in the second quarter, taking a comfortable 28-18 lead into halftime.

However, the second half belonged to the Tigers. Red Bay came out with renewed intensity, outscoring the Eagles 18-14 in the third quarter to begin chipping away at the deficit. Julianna Eaton ignited the comeback, scoring nine of her 12 total points in the third frame.

The fourth quarter was a tense back-and-forth affair. Red Bay continued to chip away at the Eagles’ lead, finally overtaking them in the final minutes.

DaRilee Colburn took charge in the final frame, scoring nine of her game-high 19 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Tigers’ charge. The Tigers outscored Covenant Christian 16-9 in the fourth.

Colburn’s 19 points led all scorers, with her clutch performance in the fourth quarter proving to be the difference. Eaton finished with 12 points, while Katlyn Lindley also reached double figures with 11. Blake Oliver contributed 6 points, and Gracie Edgmon added 4.
