Red Bay holds junior varsity basketball tournament

The Red Bay and Tharptown tip-off tournament are unofficial markers of the beginning of junior varsity basketball in Franklin County. Several county teams participated in the tournaments and made the finals.

The Vina Red Devils were the first county team to take home a championship trophy. They beat the Lamar County Bulldogs, 20-13. The Red Devils had a strong first half, leading 11-6, and kept that hot streak going into the second half to get the win. Marissa Lamar led Vina in scoring with 11 points.

In the second game of the night, Russellville beat Red Bay, 34-28. The Golden Tigers led Red Bay 17-13 at the half and held on for the win. Hadley Griffin and Lily Nichols led Red Bay in scoring, both finishing with eight points.

The last game of the night ended with the Phil Campbell Bobcats facing off against the Hamilton Aggies. This game ended up being the closest game of the night with lots of back and forth. The Bobcats fell behind in the first half, 15-9. They brought it back in a close game but ended up losing, 23-18. Gracie Harris led the Bobcats in scoring. She finished with 11 points.
