Set some Q4 goals to finish year strong

We Say

We’re in the final quarter now of 2024, but there’s still time left to make this the year you accomplished ____________.

The fourth quarter is often crucial in a football game – a final period of play for the team to make that push and put needed points on the board to achieve a win. Teams will often play their best game in the fourth quarter, as that ticking clock spurs some untapped motivation and energy.

Let the final weeks of the year do the same for you.

It’s true these are often the busiest months, but there’s always room – if only in the margins – to tackle your true priorities.

You could set some one-off goals. Maybe you’ll finally tackle a nagging house project, like pressure washing the siding, repainting the living room or redoing the kitchen backsplash. Maybe you can schedule your colonoscopy, open a Roth IRA, clean out the basement, buy new curtains for your bedroom, start flossing or join a gym.

Maybe you could identify and implement new daily or weekly habits. Think back to what you planned to accomplish all year. It’s too late to go jogging every morning or read the Bible every evening all year long – but it’s not too late to do that for the remainder of the year. What goal has you saying, “Next year I’m going to do that every day/week/month”? You can start it now.

There’s no reason to wait until an arbitrary date like Jan. 1 to start shaping your life into what you want it to be. You can make big changes right now.

Even if you have goals that are too big to accomplish by the end of the year, you can still make headway.

Craving a job change? Commit to getting your resume polished up during this season so you’re ready to hit the ground running.

Already dreaming of next summer’s vacation? You can use this final quarter of the year to set a budget and make a savings plan.

Start accomplishing next year’s goals right now.

Maybe there are no big, weighty goals on your horizon. That’s OK too. What are some small goals you can set to feel you’ve made the most of the final three months of the year? You could set a fall bucket list: visit a pumpkin patch, decorate your yard for Halloween, go apple picking, host a spooky movie night. Maybe you need to reconnect with an old friend or extended family member. Maybe you want to buy a potted plant, get a passport, eat at a new restaurant.

Whatever works for you, set some Q4 goals to make the most of what remains of this year.
