GFWC Book Lovers Study Club plans to take part in Day of Service

Sept. 28, has been designated by the General Federation of Women’s Clubs as the official Day of Service. The initiative extends through Oct. 6. This is a time when all of the GFWC clubs come together in service to raise awareness about food insecurity and to take action to end hunger.

GFWC Book Lovers Study Club is partnering with Russellville First Baptist Church, Russellville Methodist Church and North Highlands Church of Christ to highlight the issue of food insecurity in our community by collecting canned food for church pantries. A box will be placed in front of the churches where members will collect donations from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., weather permitting.

Book Lovers Study Club is an affiliate of the GFWC Alabama Federation and the International Federation. Currently, there are 988 clubs that have registered to participate in this Day of Service, and more than 1,000 are anticipated by the day of the event.

The General Federation of Women’s Clubs is a 133-year-old international organization dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service. GFWC is one of the world’s largest and oldest nonpartisan, nondenominational women’s volunteer service organizations.
