Phil Campbell volleyball team seeks to continue success

The Phil Campbell volleyball team will try to replicate their success from last year. The Bobcats hit their stride in the later part of the season, winning the area tournament and advancing to the North Regionals in Huntsville. At Huntsville, the Bobcats opened with a win landing them in the top sixteen teams in Class 3A.

“We had a great year last year,” said Phil Campbell coach Julianna Taylor. “I was really proud of how hard our girls worked last year and started to believe in themselves down the stretch.”

The Bobcats return four starters from last year’s team with a mix of freshmen and sophomores who were part of a Franklin County championship last year.

“We have a mix of veterans and newcomers,” said Taylor. “They have worked really hard during the offseason. It may take some time to gel and get used to new rotations, but I think this group has a lot of potential.”

Phil Campbell has started the year with mixed results, beating teams like Class 7A Florence and Class 6A Mae Jemison and sustaining close losses to Class 5A Russellville and Class 1A Shoals Christian.

“We need to have confidence in ourselves and our ability to compete with anyone,” said Taylor. “We want to be playing our best when we play area competition and tournament time.”

Phil Campbell is in a Class 3A area with Colbert County, Colbert Heights and Sheffield.
