Tharptown boys get wins at Belgreen, Phil Campbell

The Tharptown Wildcats continued their winning streak from last week into this week with wins at Belgreen and Phil Campbell.

Tharptown bookended dominant quarters to knock off Belgreen 48-33.Tharptown outscored Belgreen 19-10 in the first quarter and 17-8 in the fourth quarter to get the win.

Tharptown’s Dylan Valdez led all scorers with 16 points, 11 coming in the first quarter. Edwin Vela followed with eight points, making two three-pointers in the second half.  Dalton Maldonado added six points, Malachi Minor five points, Jackson Clement two points and Israel de la Rosa one point.

For Belgreen, Braycen Johnson and Hunter Woodruff scored seven points each, Aaron Rubido added five points, Alex Guidry four points, Jonathan Mendoza three points, Will King three points, Landon Cox two points and Ben Wilkins two points.

Tharptown beat Phil Campbell 45-42.

The Wildcats led 9-5 in the first quarter and 25-18 at halftime.  Phil Campbell came back in the second half, cutting the lead to 37-32 in the third quarter and getting a brief tie in the fourth quarter.

Tharptown’s Dylan Valdez led all scorers with 18 points, making three three-pointers in the first quarter.  Dawson Higgins added seven points, Malachi Minor six points, Edwin Vela six points, Jackson Clement four points and Dalton Maldonado four points.

Phil Campbell was minus three starters as the flu roiled the team last week. Senior Gage Baker and freshman Austin Elliott scored 15 each to lead the Bobcats. Hagen Raper added five points, Hayston Scott four points, and Madden Welch three points.
