Phil Campbell girls beat Tharptown, fall to Danville

The Phil Campbell varsity girls won big over Tharptown but lost a low-scoring area contest to Danville.

After a slow start, Phil Campbell ran away from the Tharptown Wildcats, winning 53-35.

The Bobcats led 14-10 at the end of the first quarter, but dominated the second quarter to take a 31-14 lead at halftime. Phil Campbell extended their lead to 42-21 at the end of the third quarter.

Phil Campbell senior Hannah Welborn led all scorers with 18 points, followed by Macy Hardy with 15 points. Leela Baker and Ayla Stowe scored six points each. Mia Ambrosio and Natalie Pope added four points each.

Tharptown eighth grader Angeleah Smith led the Wildcats with 14 points, followed by Aaliviah Smith with eight points and Harleigh Borden with three points. Ashley Vela, Alyssa Abbott, Carly Cason and Alyssa Fischer scored two points each. Lizzy Dunan added a point.

Phil Campbell lost their first area game of the season to Danville 37-34.

Danville jumped out to a strong lead early, but Phil Cambpell battled back to trail 11-8 in the first quarter. The Bobcats continued to trail by three at the half, 21-18. The Hawks outscored the Bobcats 8-3 in the third quarter to take a 29-21 lead and hung on to the win.

Hardy led Phil Campbell with 10 points. IsaBell Ashley added eight points, Welborn seven points, Baker five points, Stowe three points and Sidda Rogers one point.
