BHS teams pick up wins

BASEBALL

Belgreen 11, Cherokee 7

Belgreen beat Cherokee 11-7 in a game where the Bulldogs sent five pitchers to the mound, with Landon Cox getting the win.

Cox also went two for four with a triple at the plate and four RBIs, and scored twice.

Caige Smith went two for three with a triple and two RBIs and scored twice.

Alex Guidry went two for two with two RBIs and scored. Will King had a hit and scored a run.

Kyle Hawkins reached on three walks and scored all three times.

SOFTBALL

Belgreen 6, Red Bay 0

Lily Blackburn pitched a three-hit shutout to lead the Belgreen Bulldogs past the Red Bay Tigers 6-0.

The Bulldogs scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning to get some breathing space with the Tigers. Both teams committed four errors in the field.

Morgan Vandiver went two for two and scored twice.

The Bulldogs got doubles from Noelle Willingham, Makayla Willingham and Caitlyn Oliver. Oliver also had two RBIs.

Bulldog Bash

Belgreen’s annual Bulldog Bash softball tournament had to make some adjustments because of severe weather Friday. The tournament was condensed into just one day. Here is a summary of some of the games played Saturday.

Red Bay 5, Phillips 1

Red Bay’s Hannah Butler pitched a superb game, allowing no earned runs and four hits and striking out four in a 5-1 win over Phillips.

Journee Swan had a double and an RBI. Emma Blackburn had an RBI single. Ava Oswalt had two hits and scored a run.

Tharptown 3, Decatur Heritage 0

Tharptown scored two runs in the top of the first inning, and that was all the Lady Wildcats would need, as Alyssa Fischer pitched a four-hit shutout for the Wildcats.

Harleigh Borden had a first-inning triple to score Ashton Tharp. Lexi Little had two hits and an RBI. Fischer doubled in Tharp as well.

Belgreen 4, Deshler 0

Blackburn shut out the Deshler Tigers. She also went three for three, with two doubles and two RBIs and scored a run to help the Bulldogs to the win.

Central 4, Red Bay 3

A three-run second inning and three Red Bay errors led to Central beating Red Bay 4-3.

Swann pitched a solid game in the loss, giving up no earned runs in five innings pitched.

Swann also got a hit. Jazmyn Pearson tripled in a run, and Gretchen Davis had an RBI-hit.

Belgreen 8, Sheffield 0

Blackburn pitched a perfect game in the shutout of Sheffield, striking out six.

Morgan Vandiver had two hits and three RBIs and scored a run. Bryn Scott had two hits. Noelle Willingham scored twice. Hannah Borden doubled.

Red Bay 4, Cherokee 2

The Tigers got all four of their runs in the first inning. They got hits from Emma Blackburn, Jazmyn Pearson and Gretchen Davis. Davis also had two RBIs.

Ava Oswalt and Swann scored runs for Red Bay.
