Tharptown girls snag area win

The Tharptown Lady Wildcats picked up an area win over Sheffield and also won a non-area contest against Shoals Christian this past week.

Against Sheffield, Tharptown pulled away at the end to topple the Lady Bulldogs 44-35.

Sheffield led 11-9 at the end of the first quarter, but Tharptown came back and took a 20-19 halftime lead. The Bulldogs reclaimed the lead 25-24 at the end of the third quarter before the Wildcats ran away with it in the fourth quarter, outscoring Sheffield 20-10 for the win.

Kaitlyn Simmons led Tharptown with 12 points. Autumn Montgomery followed with nine points, eight of which came in the fourth quarter. Sarah Mansell also added nine points.

Savannah Romans scored eight points, Kyndall Morgan four points and Harleigh Borden two points.

Mansell and Simmons led the Wildcats in the 58-50 win over Shoals Christian earlier in the week. Mansell scored 16 points, followed by Simmons with 14 points. Montgomery added eight points, Romans seven points and Alyssa Abbott two points.
