County approves residential dumpster change

In its regular meeting Dec. 20, the Franklin County Commission approved a change in the minimum length of time for a residential dumpster from two months to six months.

The dumpster will be picked up once a week, and two months must still be paid up front. The change goes into effect March 1, 2022.

In other business, the commission also approved:

  • Hiring of Leon Crittenden as non-certified property appraiser in the revenue office.
  • Termination of tag/title clerk Katherine Gusman in the revenue office.
  • Hiring of Heather Holden for tag/title clerk in the revenue office.
  • Tax abatement for Belgreen Coatings.
  • Hiring of permanent full-time office clerk Hailey Brown at the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
  • Termination of corrections officer/dispatcher Dennis Riner and advertisement of the position.
  • Resignation of corrections officer/dispatcher Ricky Tharps and advertisement of the position.
  • Retirement of Deputy Andrea Bolton, courthouse security guard.
  • Advertisement for deputy.
  • Hiring of Steve Bullion as temporary full-time deputy sheriff.
  • Hiring of Zachary Cochran as full-time corrections officer/dispatcher.
  • New subdivision regulations.
  • ADCO Pipe & Supply LLC for annual material bids.

With Jan. 1, 2022, falling on a Saturday, and the New Year’s holiday being celebrated Dec. 31 – meaning county offices will be closed that day – the deadline to pay property taxes will be extended to Jan. 3, 2022. Any property tax paid or postmarked on Jan. 3., 2022, will be considered on time.

The county announced garbage pickup will be normal schedule this week and next week, and the landfill will be closed Friday and Saturday of both weeks.

There will be a public hearing Jan. 10 at 6 p.m., during the Commission meeting, for public comments regarding proposed subdivision changes. The public can pick up a copy of the rough draft of the proposed regulations from the highway department during regular business hours.

The next meeting of the county commission will be the work session at 5 p.m. Jan. 10 and the regular meeting at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 18.
