Elton John tribute show features artist Jerred Price

Pianist and vocalist Jerred Price as Almost Elton John will take the stage with his red grand piano “Ruby” and his band The RocketMen Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. at the Historic Roxy Theatre in Russellville.

The show is a tribute to Price’s friend, the legendary singer/songwriter/pianist/composer Sir Elton John. Price was the featured artist in New York City for Elton John’s 60th birthday celebration on the “Lunch Around the World” cruise, which helped raise money for the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

“We’re really looking forward to two wonderful nights of music,” said Susie Malone, president of the Franklin County Arts and Humanities Council. “Almost Elton John is going to be a top-notch program. They’re really big in Memphis and surrounding areas, and the show at the Roxy will be their first performance in Alabama. We’re hoping to have a big turnout.”

Price’s hit show started at the Hard Rock Café on Beale Street in Memphis and grew to the point where it moved to Memphis’ Lafayette’s Music Room in Overton Square. Lafayette’s describes the show as “one of Memphis’ hottest acts” and “the closest thing to Elton John” and notes Price and his band perform one of the few Elton John tribute shows in the country.

“I have seen him in person three times in Memphis,” said show chairperson Chase Sparks. “I started the process of booking him here after I saw him the first time. This will bring a new type of entertainment to the Roxy, and we hope it will encourage even more people to come to the theatre.

“It will also benefit the ongoing restoration and preservation of the Roxy.”

Tickets are $15 for general admission balcony seating and $20-35 for reserved floor seats, depending on desired location. To purchase tickets, call or text Sparks at 256-577-9932.
