Volleyball action brings wins for Belgreen, Tharptown teams

In recent volleyball action, Belgreen and Tharptown got some wins.

Belgreen beat East Lawrence and Colbert Heights. Against East Lawrence Emma Dempsey had seven kills, 15 service points and three aces. Bailey Oliver had two kills and six digs. Kaley Chandler had two kills and four digs, and Hannah Borden added eight assists. Against Colbert Heights, Dempsey had 19 kills, and Oliver had 11 straight serves to come from behind to help the Bulldogs win 23-14. Dempsey had six kills in that series of serves. Borden added 12 assists.

Belgreen also got a win against Phillips.

Tharptown lost to Hatton Tuesday and Sulligent Thursday. The Wildcats played in the Hatton Invitational Saturday going 2-1, with their loss coming to the third-ranked team in Class 3A, Lexington. Tharptown beat Phillips and Cherokee.

Against Hatton, Jaiden Gaston had four blocks. Berenice Bahena had six digs.

Against Sulligent, Gaston had two blocks and four kills. Taylor Cameron had two kills. Bahena had three digs. Perla Chavez had two digs and two kills.

In Saturday’s tournament action, Gaston had two blocks and eight kills. Chavez had two digs and three kills. Cameron had two kills. Leslie Staggs had a kill and two digs. Bahena had seven digs. Macy Petree had a kill. Destin Martin added two aces.
