Q&A with Sydney Borden, BHS softball senior

Q: How old were you when you started playing softball?

A: I was six years old.

Q: Was there anyone special in your life that helped you become a great player?

A: My dad. He has always been my coach and has done everything he could for me to succeed.

Q: How do you get ready for a game?

A: I usually just listen to music and get a pack of gum from Coach Stewart.

Q: What do you like to do when you are not involved with softball?

A: I like to spend time with my family and friends.

Q: What factors do you feel have influenced you the most to become the player and person you are today?

A: My mom and dad have helped me in every way they could have.

Q: Did you have any routines or superstitions before or in a game?

A: I have a white Nike headband that I wear in the field, but I have to take it off when I hit.

Q: What is your favorite softball memory?

A: When we went to state my 10th grade year.

Q: What softball player has influenced you most in the game? Why?

A: Anna Grace Owens. She was a senior when I was in seventh grade. She always pushed to be a better pitcher.

Q: What is the greatest obstacle you have had to overcome in your playing career?

A: I moved schools my sophomore year, and I was really scared. It ended up being a good decision because I met some of my best friends.

Q: What is life after being a softball player for you?

A: I plan on being an elementary school teacher.

Q: What are your thoughts on your season and career coming to an abrupt end?

A: It’s hard to watch it end when you know how much potential your team has. We could have made our third consecutive trip to the state tournament. We played so well together; it’s difficult knowing we won’t ever get to do it again.
