Russellville High School students present ‘Frozen’ this weekend

Russellville High School is taking audience members to Arendale with “Frozen Jr.” Feb. 6-8 in the Russellville High School Auditorium.

The Thursday and Friday shows will begin at 6 p.m., and there will be two Saturday shows: one at 2:30 p.m. and one at 6:30 p.m. Doors will open one hour before each performance begins.

“We asked to do ‘Frozen’ in middle school because it had just come out, but they told us it was not available yet,” said senior Kaitlin Weeks. “So when we found out we got to do ‘Frozen,’ we were all really excited.”

Although the popular title is a favorite among many, for others, the RHS show has brought a new experience. Senior Brandon Hampton said working on the production was his first introduction to the world of Frozen.

“Whenever it came out, I actually never saw the movie,” Hampton said. “My first time watching it was when we had to watch it here in class.”

“Frozen Jr.” will follow the storyline fans are familiar with from the Disney. The show will be a musical, with plenty of familiar songs for audience members to enjoy.

For the first time, the show will feature digital backdrops to add to the experience.

“Technology keeps changing and allowing us to do cooler stuff,” said choral director Emily Rush. “I think it’s going to turn out really well.”

The majority of main characters are double cast, so audience members could see different people portraying the lead, depending on which show time they attend.

“It’s been so much fun to work on,” said senior Macey Vandiver. “It’s sad to think this will be my last musical here.”

Tickets for the show are $5 and can be purchased at the door or in the high school office.
