Belgreen teams top Lindsey Lane

The Belgreen Lady Bulldogs had a big third quarter to put away Lindsey Lane and go onto win 79-52. The boys team enjoyed similar success with a 71-65 victory.

GIRLS

Ansley Tate scored 10 first-quarter points and went six-for-six from the free-throw line to help Belgreen jump out to a 17-12 first quarter lead. The Bulldogs extended their lead to 37-31 at halftime on three second-quarter threes by Autumn Bragwell.

A pair of three-pointers by Bragwell and Katie Dempsey helped the Bulldogs put the game away in the third quarter. Belgreen outscored Lindsey Lane 29-10 to take 66-41 going into the final period of play.

Emma Dempsey also added 11 points in the third quarter, and she led Belgreen with 25 points. Bragwell added 20 points, and Tate had 18 points. Gracie Dempsey finished the game with eight points, Katie Dempsey five points and Dacota Green three points.

BOYS

Spectators who came to watch Belgreen at Lindsey Lane last week got their money’s worth, as guards Will Bonner and Tommy Murr went head-to-head in what looked like a personal battle.

Belgreen’s Bonner scored 47 points to Murr’s 44 points for Lindsey Lane to help Belgreen to the 71-65 win.

“It was certainly fun to watch,” said Belgreen Coach Marty Cooper. “They are both very similar and very good at getting to the basket and the free-throw line.”

Bonner’s scoring line looked like most high school teams: He dropped eight points in the first quarter, 17 in the second, 10 in the third and 12 in the fourth. He went 13-for-15 from the free-throw line.

Lindsey Lane jumped out to a 19-10 lead over Belgreen in the first quarter. The Bulldogs stormed back in the second quarter, however, outscoring Lindsey Lane 27-12 to take a 37-31 halftime lead.

Belgreen extended that lead to 59-48 by the end of the third quarter.

In other scoring for Belgreen, Bryant Hubbert added seven points, Scout Bragwell had three points, and Isac Willingham finished with two points.

Belgreen 68, Phil Campbell 36

Bragwell drained seven three-pointers, including four in the first quarter, to help the Belgreen Bulldogs to an easy 68-36 win over Phil Campbell.

Belgreen raced out to a 24-10 first quarter lead over the Bobcats and extended that lead to 37-21 by halftime. Belgreen pushed the lead out even further to 63-26 by the end of the third quarter.

Bragwell led Belgreen with 25 points. Bonner followed with 21 points on three three-pointers and 10-for-15 from the free-throw line.

Colin Bonner added eight points, Willingham seven points and Brodie Vandiver five points.

Luke Garrison led Phil Campbell with 11 points. Ben Williams and Julian Jimenez scored six points each. Canaan Clay (4), Brett Saint (3), Jonah Fisher (2), Trenton McCulloch (2), Blaine Goodson (2), Nate Orrick (2) and John Randle Herring (1) also scored for the Bobcats.
