FCSO arrests more than 50 in year-long narcotics investigation

A collaborative effort among local law enforcement resulted in 55 arrests – which authorities hope leads to less drug trafficking in Franklin County streets.

Arrests were made Jan. 14, with more than 80 grand jury indictments/arrest warrants being issued for subjects involved with or related to the investigation.

The investigation is still ongoing, and authorities said there are expected to be more arrests in the upcoming weeks.

Over the past year, investigators with the Franklin County Sheriff’s office and Russellville Police Department assigned to the ALEA Region E drug Task Force conducted an extensive investigation with the help of other narcotics units in the area.

“Working to stop drugs is a hard job just due to the nature of it, so the only way law enforcement can get things done is by working together,” said Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett.

The 55 total arrests that day were booked into the Franklin County Jail. Six additional felony drug charges were made, and three individuals were taken into custody who were wanted by other agencies.

The agencies that collaborated on this effort were the Franklin County Sheriff’s office, Franklin County district Attorney’s office, Russellville Police, Red Bay Police, the State Bureau of Investigation, Region E drug Task Force, Alabama Board of Pardons and Parole, K9 Unit, Enforcement Division, Gulf Coast Fugitive Task Force, Alabama State Fire Marshal’s office, Marion County Sheriff, Colbert County Sheriff, Morgan County Sheriff, Lauderdale County Sheriff and Colbert County drug Task Force.
