Homefolks U.S.A.

Hi folks,

These past few weeks have brought many new memories in my life. Most have been really good – a few sad occasions, but for the most part, everything has really been great.

Many times, it’s just good to sit back and really listen to what folks are saying. Everyone has a story to tell; they just need someone to listen.

I value my friends, and every day I try to make a new one. I encourage the readers of Homefolks U.S.A. to do the same.

It was so good to talk with my buddy from Big Sandy, Tenn., a few weeks ago, Mr. Ron Lane. We shared a lot of stories about days gone by.

Ron has now retired from politics. For many years he was mayor of Big Sandy, and he also owned a couple of radio stations. He still devotes a lot of time to radio, and his advice to me was: “Gotta keep busy. An idle mind is the devil’s workshop.”

I agree wholeheartedly with that advice.

Another good friend who I always enjoy spending time with is Wade Oden. It’s always a real pleasure to talk with Wade because he is so genuine. I had rather have a handshake from him than a mortgage on a black land farm. So happy to call him my friend.

My friend Lowell Landers also paid us a visit last week, just to check and see that everyone was doing OK. He and his brother Larry have really been an encouragement to me. I rank them at the top of my friend list.

The year 2019 has been a good one, but it is rapidly coming to a close. The fall is a beautiful time; the trees will be going to sleep. The flowers will fade. It’s a little sad for some of us, but that’s the way the Lord designed the universe, so we need to be happy and enjoy every day of the year.

My many friends help me to enjoy each and every day. For that reason alone, they really make me happy.

This year a lot of great musicians have been visiting our city and entertaining the folks at the Roxy Theater. I’m so happy to see people who are supporting those who are making this happen.

In November Jimmy Fortune (former member of the Statler Brothers) will be performing at the Roxy. Hope you will make plans to attend.

Thanks so  much for reading our stories every week. I have missed a couple of issues, and many folks have reminded me of that. I take that as a real compliment. Just keep reading, and I will do my best to keep sharing stories every week in Home Folks U.S.A.

Till next time,

Your friend,

Bobby
