FC schools compete at cross-country invitational

Franklin County runners had a good showing in the Brooks Cross-Country Invitational meet held along the Tennessee River at McFarland Park in Florence Saturday morning.

Tharptown High School fielded its first cross-country team, and junior Winston Nolen was the top county finisher among boys. Nolen finished 18th overall out of 184 boys in Class 1A-4A with a time of 19:17.70.

Phil Campbell sophomore Katie Thomas was the top county finisher among the girls.  Thomas finished 18th overall out of 102 girls in Class 1A-4A with a time of 23:58.29.  Vina’s Rayleigh Guin finished 29th overall with a time of 25:00.79.

The Phil Campbell High School junior high girls cross-country team won the Brooks Invitational. The junior high girls’ race is two miles.

Both Harmony Gaisser and Kaylie Motes finished in the top 10 of the event – eighth and ninth, respectively.

The junior high boys runners, Daniel Gonzalez and River Quillen, finished in the top five – fourth and fifth respectively.
