RHS boys golf finishes fourth in state

RHS boys golf finishes fourth in state

The Russellville boys’ golf team traveled to Prattville to compete in the Class 5A 2019 AHSAA State Championship and came away with a fourth-place finish.

May 13-14 at the Robert Trent Jones Legislator Course at Capitol Hill, the Golden Tigers were led by senior Jaceton Murray. The Calhoun Community College signee tied for third in the individual competition. Murray highlighted the tournament with a hole-in-one on the Par 3, No. 11 hole from 152 yards out.

UMS-Wright took first place by shooting a 309 and a 319 for a two-day total score of 628. Guntersville followed in second with 327 and 317, while Sylacauga was next with 323 and 328 for the tournament. Coach Patrick Odom’s Russellville team rounded out the group with a 336 on day one and a 324 on day two for a 660.

Murray’s +12 two-day score of 156 tied him for third with Patrick Minor of Jasper. Murray shot a 79 and a 77, while teammate Brayden Bendall finished in 10th place with a 78 and 81 for a 159. Eric Boutwell of RHS followed closely with an 84 and 76 to finish at 160. Carson Reeves and Lucas McNutt rounded out the individual scores with a 189 for Reeves and 193 for McNutt.

JP Cave of UMS-Wright was the top individual golfer with a +3 score of 147, shooting a 75 on day one and an even-par round of 72 to finish up the tournament. Nathaniel King of Citronelle was runner-up with a nine-over-par two-day score of 153.

On the girls’ leaderboard, Randolph School from Huntsville took both the 4A-5A individual championship and the team title.
