Breathing in the scent of the season

Isn’t it amazing how each time of year brings its own unique set of scents – smells that evoke a variety of memories and emotions?

I love the scents of fall and Christmas. From campfires and evergreens to baked goodies and Christmas candy, the aromas of this time of year can just make your heart sing with joy.

For a cozy fall or winter evening, my favorite thing is to plug up the Christmas tree for a twinkly glow and then light a candle to fill the room with a nice scent. Baked apple pie is a perfect classic for fall, but there’s plenty of other options out there, too. I love them all.

A great thing about candles is that you can buy them almost anywhere. Plenty of Franklin County shops have candles for sale, whether you are looking for a crackly Woodwick – with a delightful sound to match the scent! – or something else in particular. From tiny tealights to the most imposing pillars, there’s a candle to suit every need.

Of course, burning a candle isn’t the only way to relish in the scents of the season. There’s your traditional potpourri or, alternatively, potpourri you can make yourself – try cranberries, orange slices, cinnamon sticks, cloves and nutmeg in a simmering pot on the stovetop. There’s also essential oils, wax melts, room sprays and more.

Aside from candles, my personal favorite way to make things smell amazing is to bake up something delicious. Why just smell “warm sugar cookie” or “cinnamon nut streusel” when you eat one as well?

Whatever your favorite holiday scent, I hope you get the chance to enjoy it to the fullest this time of year.
