Belgreen sweeps Tharptown to open regular season

The Belgreen Bulldogs opened their season in dominating fashion, easily beating Tharptown 75-36.

Kostner Bryant hit two three-pointers and scored eight points in a 21-point outburst in the opening quarter of the game. Belgreen led Tharptown 21-6 at the end of the first quarter.

The Bulldogs hit three more three-pointers in the second quarter and outscored Tharptown 20-11 to extend their lead to 41-17 at halftime.

Scout Bragwell and Brant Bragwell combined for 17 points in the third quarter to help Belgreen outpace the Wildcats 28-14 and put the game away with a 69-31 total after three quarters of play.

Belgreen had four players in double digits, led by Brant Bragwell with 16 points and Mason Bragwell with 15 points. Scout Bragwell followed with 14 points, and Kostner Bryant had 10 points. Isac Willingham (7), Koby Collins (5), Gaven Taylor (2), David Plott (2), Tanner Warhurst (2) and Will Donohoe (2) also scored for Belgreen.

The Bulldogs hit nine three pointers in the game.

Edward Lopez led Tharptown with 11 points. He was followed by Colton Simmons with nine points, Winston Nolen with eight points, Les Montgomery with six points and Carson Petree with two points.

Varsity girls

Gabbie Moore and Gracie Dempsey combined for 43 points as Belgreen defeated Tharptown 69-52.

Moore scored eight points in the first quarter to lead Belgreen to a 17-11 lead. She scored eight more points in the second quarter to help the Bulldogs extend their lead to 33-23.

Dempsey scored nine points in the third quarter, including going 6-for-6 from the free throw line, to outscore Tharptown 23-13 and extend the lead to 56-36.

Belgreen lived at the free throw line in the fourth quarter but struggled, going 7-for-21 at the line.

Moore led Belgreen with 24 points followed by Dempsey with 19 points. Autumn Bragwell hit three three-pointers to score nine points. Emma Dempsey scored five points; Emma Willingham and Ansley Tate scored four points each; Megan Smith had three points; and Whitney Turbyfill scored one point.

Shaylee Wieting led Tharptown, hitting three three-pointers in the second half and tallying 14 points total. Autumn Montgomery followed with 11 points. Brooke Daily added 10 points, scoring her 500th career point in the game. Aly Vandiver scored nine points, Adrianna Borden scored six points, and Macy Petree scored two points.

B-varsity boys

Belgreen easily defeated Tharptown 39-18. Brodie Vandiver led Belgreen with 12 points, and Edwin Garcia led Tharptown with eight points.
