Red Cross plans summer blood drives
The American Red Cross is counting on volunteer donors to give blood and help ensure patient needs can be met this summer.
Around Memorial Day, the Red Cross sees a steep decline in blood donations. Busy summer schedules, vacations and school breaks cause a drop in donations.
In Franklin County, the Red Cross will host a blood drive June 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Russellville High School, 1865 Waterloo Road.
Another way to support the American Red Cross is to become a volunteer transportation specialist and deliver blood products to local hospitals. Volunteer transportation specialists play an important role in ensuring an ample blood supply for patients in need.
