Spring Break on the diamond

Hayden Murray had a clutch day at the plate as the Red Bay Tigers scored the first of two wins over the Colbert Heights Wildcats 11-6.

Murray drove in four runs on three hits to lead the Tigers. He was a home run away from hitting for the cycle having belted a triple, double and single in the game.

Red Bay was having no trouble making contact against Wildcat pitching, getting 16 hits.

Trailing 4-0, Red Bay posted a seven-run third inning to pull away from Colbert Heights. In the third Skylar Brazil had a two-RBI single, and Kolby Bragwell had an RBI double. Murray had a two-RBI triple. Chase Allen had an RBI-single.

Brazil, Bragwell and Murray each had three-hit games. Alex Burroughs, Brazil and Bragwell scored two runs each.

Murray got the win for Red Bay allowing four hits and two runs over four innings and striking out six.

Red Bay 14, Cherokee 3

The Red Bay Tigers blew away the Cherokee Indians last week 14-3. The Tigers piled up 20 hits in the game, scoring six runs in the first inning, three in the second and four in the third.

Every batter in the Tiger lineup had multiple hits. Burroughs went three-for-four with two RBIs and scored a run. Bragwell went three-for-five with two RBIs and scored three runs. Allen went three-for-three with three RBIs. Brazil had two hits and scored two runs. Murray had two hits and an RBI and scored a run. Kaleb Bragwell had two hits and an RBI and scored two runs. Cade McKinney had two hits and three RBIs and scored a run.

Brazil and McKinney both had doubles.

Allen got the win, pitching four innings, giving up three hits and two runs and striking out three.

Red Bay 7, Carbon Hill 1

Red Bay scored three runs in the top of the first inning, and that was all the Tigers would need en route to an easy 7-1 win over the Carbon Hill Bulldogs.

McKinney went two-for-two to lead the Tigers at the plate. Red Bay added two runs in the fourth and runs in the fifth and sixth innings. The Carbon Hill Bulldogs got their lone run in the third.

Alex Burroughs and Kolby Bragwell scored two runs each in the win.

Murray got the win from the mound, pitching six innings. He allowed only one hit and one run and struck out six.

Colbert Heights 9, Red Bay 4

Red Bay fell to Colbert Heights last week 9-4, despite outhitting the Wildcats 7-3.

Red Bay scored two runs in the top of the second inning to take a brief 2-0 lead with Allen and Kolby Bragwell crossing the plate, but Colbert Heights took the lead in the bottom half of the inning, scoring four runs.

Red Bay tied the game in the top of the fourth inning on a two-RBI single by Alex Burroughs scoring Bragwell and Max Bullen.

Colbert Heights reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fourth, scoring four runs to take commanding 8-4 lead.

Kaleb Bragwell went two-for-four and scored two runs.

Red Bay sent five pitchers to the mound, giving up only three hits but surrendering seven earned runs.

Winfield 4, Red Bay 1

Red Bay managed only one run and one hit in a 4-1 loss to the Winfield Pirates last week.

Kaleb Bragwell got the Tigers’ lone hit, scoring his brother Kolby Bragwell in the top of the fourth inning.
