Vina takes loss Friday night

Phillips 32, Vina 6
The Vina Red Devils were able to score a touchdown late in the game Friday night but were unable to overcome a scoring onslaught by the Phillips Bears. Phillips scored 34 unanswered points before the Red Devils were able to tack on the final score of the game.
The Red Devils’ lone score came on a pass play from Blake Hardin to Austin Harper in the third quarter.
“It was a game of attrition for us,” said Vina coach Jason Harris. “We had a lot of players get hurt. We already have two starters out due to injury.”
Injuries can have an even bigger impact when a team is short on depth.
“We don’t have much depth behind our young starters,” said Harris. “We are just trying to do the best we can with a lot of youth on both sides of the ball.”
Vina Red Devils will celebrate homecoming this week as they host the Cherokee Indians.
