    Franklin County students receive NW-SCC scholarships

    Numerous local students of the Class of 2016 have been named scholarship recipients by Northwest-Shoals Community College.

    • MaKayla Grace Franks, Russellville, received a valedictorian academic scholarship. Franks, a graduate from Tharptown High School, is valedictorian and a member of the National Honor Society, Pi Club, Spanish Club, Student Council, Franklin County Junior Leadership, FBLA, SADD and FCA. She was also named Who’s Who Most Likely to Succeed, Alabama Girls State representative and All A’s Honor Roll. While at NW-SCC, Franks will pursue a degree in pre-pharmacy and transfer for a doctorate in pharmacology. She is the daughter of Ronnie and Connie Murray Franks and granddaughter of Sarah Murray and the late Robert Murray and the late Richard and Martha Franks.
    • Jill Masterson, Russellville, received an applied technology scholarship. A graduate from Russellville High School, Masterson was a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, SADD, FBLA, HOSA, FCCLA, Chemistry Club and the Library/media club. She was a varsity cheerleader, homecoming court member, class secretary and Who’s Who Most Dependable. While at NW-SCC, Masterson will pursue a degree in nursing. She is the daughter of Jeff and Leah Masterson.
    • Kathryn Amber Gibson, Phil Campbell, received an academic scholarship. A graduate from Russellville High School, Gibson was a member of National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, CSU, FBLA, Peer Helpers, Junior Leadership, Library Media-Book Lovers Club, Chemistry Club, SADD, FCCLA, RHS Varsity Cheer, Junior Varsity Cheer, UCA All-Star Cheerleader and homecoming court. She received the Cheerleader of Excellence Award, Pin-It Forward Receipt, Senior Who’s Who Best Looking, UCA Staff Invite and is in the top 10 percent of her senior class. While at NW-SCC, Gibson will pursue a degree in anatomy with a minor in chemistry. She is the daughter of Tina Gibson and the late Ron Gibson. Grandparents are Billy and Lorraine Hall and Jan Hollman and the late Carrol Gibson.
    • Bethany Hope Cook, Russellville, received a valedictorian academic scholarship. A graduate from Red Bay High School, she was a member of the Beta Club, Science Club, Leo Club, English Club, HOSA, SADD, FCA, Spanish Club and the varsity basketball team. While at NW-SCC, Cook will pursue a degree in occupational therapy. She is the daughter of Barry and Tracy Cook and the granddaughter of Orbie and Janice Miller and Floyd and Delois Cook.
    • Ashlyn Vandiver, Leighton, received an academic scholarship. A graduate from Tharptown High School, Vandiver was a member of FBLA, SADD, Spanish Club, 4-H, FCA, National Honor Society, Junior Civitan, Student Council, Pi Club, Math Club, Franklin Co. Junior Leadership, Basketball, Softball, Volleyball team and Cheerleader. She was class president, Who’s Who “Best All Around,” and Homecoming Queen. While at NW-SCC, she will pursue a degree in nursing. Vandiver is the daughter of Jerry and Melanie Vandiver and the granddaughter of Robert and June Vandiver and Pam Clement and the late Terry Clement and Barbara Mefford.
    • Kaitlyn Nicole Vandiver, Russellville, received an academic scholarship. A graduate from Tharptown High School, Vandiver was a member of the National Honor Society, 4-H, SADD, FCA, FBLA (president) and softball, basketball and volleyball teams. She is the daughter of Carl and Stacia Long Vandiver and the granddaughter of Thomas and Brenda Long and Bobby and Mary Lou Vandiver.
    • Kaitlin Burks, Vina, received an academic scholarship. A graduate from Red Bay High School, Burks was a member of Beta Club (president), Leo Club (vice president), Science Club (president), SADD, SAFE, Spanish Club, English Club, Robotics Team, FBLA, FCA, varsity basketball team, varsity track team, RBHS Hall of Fame, Miss RBHS, and named Who’s Who “Most Beautiful.” While at NW-SCC, she will pursue a degree in nursing. Burks is the daughter of Jeff and Amy Burks and granddaughter of Bunt and Kathy Burks and Marshall and Janice Blackburn.
    • Tierney Barton, of Phil Campbell, received an Opportunity Scholarship. A graduate from Phil Campbell High School, Barton was vice president of the National Honor Society and a member of FCCLA, Yearbook, Junior Civitan, Line Dance Club and Student Council. While at NW-SCC, Barton will pursue a degree in office administration. Barton is the daughter of Chris and Tennille Barton.
    • Elijah Hal Crandall, of Spruce Pine, received an academic scholarship. A graduate from Phil Campbell High School, he was a member of the National Honor Society, FFA and track and field. While at NW-SCC, he will pursue a degree in wildlife, fisheries and aquaculture. Crandall is the son of Frankie and Sherry Crandall.
    • Nilka “Ivone” Warrior, of Spruce Pine, received an applied technology scholarship. A graduate from Tharptown High School, she was the president of HOSA and a member of Student Council and SADD. While at NW-SCC, she will pursue a degree in nursing. She is the daughter of Fernando Warrior.
    • Jeffery Gant Dill, of Russellville, received a salutatorian academic scholarship. A graduate from Tharptown High School, he has held leadership positions in the National Honor Society and FCA. He was a member of Student Council, SADD, Junior Civitan, Yearbook, THS Voices and the football and golf teams. While at NW-SCC, Dill will pursue a degree in communications. He is the son of Jeff and Christy Dill.
    • Drew C. Boshell, of Hodges, received an ACT scholarship. A graduate from Belgreen High School, Boshell was the captain of the varsity basketball team. He is the son of Stacey and Charles Hogan and Chris Boshell and the grandchild of Larry and Barbara Boshell, Ed Moore and Patsy Hill.
    • Ashley Marie Seahorn, of Russeville, received an applied techonogly scholarship. A graduate from Russellville High School, she participated in cheerleading, volleyball and the National Honor Society. While at NW-SCC, Seahorn will pursue a degree in nursing. She is the daughter of Shawn Seahorn and Travis Seahorn Jr. and the grandchild of Fred and Jaent McKnight and Travidand Diane Seahorn.

    More student scholarship winners will be featured in upcoming editions of the Franklin County Times.
