Rotary, rocket team fundraiser blasts off

The RCS Rocket Team and Russellville Rotary Club’ joint fundraiser Oct. 31 had more than 100 attendees.
“It was exciting, especially with it being Niles (Butts) and his team,” said Opal Alexander. Alexander, 84, was one of the raffle winners who got the chance to try her hand at launching one of the rockets. Coincidentally, Alexander is Butts’ grandmother.
“It was for a very good cause and had a good turnout,” said Rotary President Joey Rushing. “The community got to see what the rocket team did at the world competition and be able to better understand.”
Money raised was split between the rocket team and the Rotary Club. Rotary will use the money raised as part of its efforts to fund scholarships for Russellville students.
