Something to celebrate
Student athletes check out the championship T-shirts and framed resolutions presented to them by the Russellville City Council.

Student success was the cause for celebration at the A.W. Todd Centre Sunday.
Dozens from the community turned out to show their support for the RCS baseball, golf and rocket teams. A photo montage highlighted the students’ achievements as friends and family packed in. Refreshments included a black and gold frosted cake proclaiming, “It’s great to be a Golden Tiger,” – the repeated refrain for the afternoon.
“We’d just like to congratulation every player, every coach, every mom and dad … everybody that’s had a part in making this possible,” said Russellville Mayor David Grissom. “This is unbelievable, what you have accomplished this year.”
The mayor and city council presented framed copies of resolutions recognizing each team to the players, along with special championship T-shirts. Also presenting resolutions were Probate Judge Barry Moore and representatives on behalf of Sen. Larry Stutts.
“This is not only a springboard for our school system but also a great example for all of us to follow,” said new Superintendent Heath Grimes. “Things like this (three championships in one year) don’t happen by chance. They happen by hard work, preparation, dedication and – for those coaches and parents and students and student athletes – the unity, teamwork and focusing on the goal and all looking in the same direction. I hope we can use that example for us to accomplish many more things worth celebrating in the next few years.”
Former superintendent Rex Mayfield said the effort is still ongoing to collect the required amount of money to be able to purchase championship rings for these RCS champions, although the goal is nearing with the help of community sponsors.
