American Graffiti showing at local theatre

ROXY

Come take a “blast in the past” as the historic Roxy Theatre in downtown Russellville, Ala. presents the 1973 movie, “American Graffiti” on Saturday, May 16, at 7 p.m.

This Academy Award nominee for Best Picture is set in 1962 California. A group of teenagers played by Ron Howard, Richard Dreyfuss, Cindy Williams, Suzanne Sommers, and Harrison Ford cruise the streets and hangout together over a period of one night while listening to disc jockey ”Wolfman Jack” play rock and roll music over the radio.

The musical soundtrack includes many popular songs of the 1950s and 1960s such as “Rock Around the Clock,” “The Peppermint Twist,” and “The Stroll.”

The U.S. Library of Congress has preserved the film in the National Film Registry due to the cultural and historical depiction of teenage life and music in the United States during the early 1960s. Tickets are $5 and the doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7p.m. See www.historicroxytheatre.com or like us on Facebook.
