Dorris Gantt Fleming

Dorris Gantt Fleming

February 16, 2015

Dorris Gantt Fleming, age 92, Russellville, passed away on Monday, Feb. 16, 2015 at her residence.

Many Russellville residents will remember her as the hard working, no nonsense, head for business owner of Fleming Restaurant which she owned and operated in partnership with her husband, Everett, for 31 years. She might be remembered as the owner of her treasure shop, Yours & Mine. Some may even remember her as the girl voted the Cleanest Person in the Who’s Who in Russellville High School’s Class of 1940. But her family will remember Dorris as first and foremost as the devoted wife of her beloved Everett. Theirs was a love that lasted much longer than the 70 years they were married.  Dorris spent most of life on her family’s farm in Russellville and most of her life was spent with Everett. They worked together, side by side, at their business and on their cattle farm. Together they doted on their nieces and nephews and enjoyed hosting many family meals and Christmas sleepovers. Together they took care of their parents and siblings. Never did Dorris mention Everett’s name without a loving tone in her voice and a compliment on her lips.  Dorris was a member of First Baptist Church, the Cattlemen’s Association, the Disabled Veterans Association, and a member of the Republican Party.  She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.

The visitation was Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015 at Spry Memorial Chapel.   Burial followed at Franklin Memory Gardens.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her sisters, Jo Willmarth and Mary Hudson; several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Everett Fleming; parents, Carrie and Tom Gantt, sister, Nora Allen; and brother, Winford Gantt.

The pallbearers were Harold Fleming, Wayne Hester, Wayne Allen, Greg Allen, Doug Allen, and Rick Willmarth.
