Three charged in burglaries

Three Colbert County men were arrested recently after being accused of burglarizing a residence and stealing scrap metal.
Michael Wellington, 35, Cave St., Tuscumbia; Aaron Hooper, 35, Irene Ave., Tuscumbia; and Johnny Davis, 31, Hook St., Tuscumbia, were all charged with third-degree burglary and third-degree theft of property, officials said.
According to Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver, the men are accused of breaking into a barn on Cave Hollow Road in Russellville on Jan. 17.
Oliver said scrap iron and scrap metal were reportedly taken during the break-in that occurred that morning.
He said witnesses saw the men at the barn and called authorities but the men were gone by the time deputies arrived on the scene.
“We were able to get a description of the vehicle and it wasn’t too long after the crime was reported that we received a call that there was a vehicle broken down on Alabama 24 East that matched the description of the vehicle we were searching for,” Oliver said.
“Once investigators got to the vehicle, they questioned all three men and were able to get a full confession from one of the suspects.”
Oliver said they were able to recover all the stolen materials as well.
At press time, Wellington was still in custody at the Franklin County Jail, but Hooper and Davis had been released on bond.
