Lady Bulldogs sweep Lady Red Devils in doubleheader

J.R. Tidwell/FCT Belgreen’s Laken Bragwell (24) takes a swing at a pitch at Belgreen earlier this season. Bragwell went 3-3 at the plate in game one and pitched a no-hitter.

BELGREEN — The Belgreen Lady Bulldogs swept the Vina Lady Red Devils in a two-game series on Friday. Belgreen won game one 12-1 and game two 13-3.

Laken Bragwell pitched a no-hitter against Vina in game one.

She had 12 strikeouts in five innings while giving up only one run. She also went 3-3 batting.

The only run of the game for the Lady Red Devils came on the base running of Chelsea Darricott, who ended up taking home plate after two throwing errors.

The Lady Bulldogs scored four runs in each of the game’s first three innings.

The first innings featured a triple by Erica Smith, an RBI double by Bridget Thompson, an RBI single by Lauren Oliver and an RBI single by Bragwell.

Three hits and a walk saw all four batters come in to score for Belgreen in second inning.

Allyson Bragwell got on base in the third and was brought in on an RBI triple by Smith.

An RBI single by Thompson, an RBI triple by Oliver and an RBI single by Laken Bragwell followed this.

Game two saw much the same result for the Lady Bulldogs, however the beginning of the contest was much closer this time around.

Vina scored two runs in the top of the first, brought in by Darricott and Hannah Baggett.

The Lady Bulldogs evened the score in the bottom of the inning on RBIs by Oliver and Laken Bragwell.

Belgreen took the lead in the bottom of the second off an RBI triple by Thompson and an RBI single by Oliver.

The Lady Bulldogs added another insurance run in the bottom of the fourth when Oliver brought in Smith with a two-out RBI.

The Lady Red Devils brought in their third run of the game on an RBI from Baggett, who brought in Erica Cantrell. This would be all the points Vina would get in game two, though.

Belgreen added another run in the bottom of the inning after a double by Morgan Bradford set up an RBI by Shellie Barber.

A big inning in the bottom of the six for the Lady Bulldogs saw seven more runs put on the board, ending the game after six innings.

Hits for Belgreen in the inning included a single by Hanna Taylor, doubles by Smith and Laken Bragwell and two hits by Thompson.
