Gayle Grissom Owen, of Huntsville, passed away Sunday Feb. 26, 2012.

Ms. Owen, formerly of Russellville, was born November 26, 1951, to Albert and Frauline Grissom. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Rebecca Grissom Hufstedler.

She is survived by her sons, Nicholas Owen and wife Kimberly, of Hazel Green, and Joshua and Matthew Owen, both of Huntsville; grandchildren, Wesley, Kaitlynn, Gracie Jo and Ensley Owen, all of Hazel Green, and one sister Alice Hicks, of Mobile.

Ms. Owen graduated from Russellville High School in 1969 and went on to continue her education at Auburn University where she received both her undergraduate and graduate degree in education. From there, she began a long and rewarding career in education.

While raising her family and teaching she went on to receive her Education Administrative Certificate from Alabama A&M. After completion of this phase of her education she went on to serve in the Madison County School system from 1979 until her retirement as Assistant Principal at Sparkman High School in December 2011.

She leaves behind a long legacy of students and colleagues who along with her family will miss her greatly.
